About the Organisation Yolk Digital are looking to fulfil a contract with our client, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). DFAT is seeking two experienced Power BI Developers / Data Engineers to join its Business Solutions Branch. These roles sit within the Database Management and Dynamics Section and are focused on delivering and maintaining DFAT's Power BI reporting capabilities and data warehouse infrastructure built on Microsoft Fabric. You will design and build enterprise-grade dashboards, semantic models, and data pipelines, working across the full Microsoft Fabric stack including Lakehouse, Data Factory, and Delta table architecture. A strong grasp of DAX, Power Query, and SQL is essential, alongside hands-on experience with data governance, row-level security, and Power BI Service administration. This is a technically deep, delivery-focused role requiring close collaboration with data engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into analytics solutions. You will also contribute to CI/CD deployment pipelines, license optimisation, and ongoing performance tuning across reports and datasets.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI • Build and manage enterprise semantic models using Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse • Develop and optimise data models using DAX and Power Query (M language) • Implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Fabric Data Factory • Work with Lakehouse architecture leveraging Delta tables • Implement row-level security (RLS) and data governance best practices • Administer Power BI Service including tenancy settings, capacity management and workspace governance • Implement and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) across workspaces, apps, datasets and Fabric artifacts • Optimise performance of reports, datasets and queries • Support CI/CD deployment pipelines for BI artifacts • Manage gateway configurations and on-premises data connectivity • Perform license assignment and optimisation based on user roles and usage patterns • Ensure data quality, accuracy and documentation standards are maintained • Collaborate with data engineers, business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into analytics solutions

Skills and Experience

• 5+ years in a Power BI development or data engineering role • Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M language) and SQL • Experience with data modelling, Delta Lake architecture, Dataflows Gen2 and Fabric pipelines • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory) • Knowledge of the Azure ecosystem including Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL and Entra Key Vault • Experience implementing RLS and security best practices • Knowledge of Microsoft licensing, Power BI tenancy administration and RBAC • Experience with Azure DevOps and Git (advantageous) • Familiarity with notebooks and data transformations within Fabric environments

Essential Criteria

1. 5+ years experience in a similar Power BI / data engineering role 2. Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M) and SQL 3. Experience with data modelling, Delta Lake architecture, Dataflows Gen2 and Fabric pipelines 4. Knowledge of the Azure ecosystem (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Entra Key Vault) 5. Experience implementing row-level security (RLS) and data governance best practices 6. Knowledge of Microsoft licensing, RBAC and Power BI tenancy administration

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience with DevOps processes and tools including Azure DevOps and Git 2. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory)
